A Family of Black Belts - The Paynes - Koo Self Defense

My name is Brhonda Payne. I started training with Master Roger Koo in January 1996 at his studio in Downtown Cartersville, Georgia, USA in September 1997, I achieved my Black Belt at the age of 37.

My son, Ryan Payne, 10 years old started in March 1994 at the age of 5 and is currently a 1st. Degree Black Belt at Koo Self Defense. My husband, Ronnie Payne started in July 1995 and is also a Black Belt at K.S.D.

Initially I began training for the exercise, because it is a great workout. It is such an intense workout that all the muscles in your body get attention and not just one area. You can't do that in a gym, I have tried it.

One of the great benefits from this workout is learning self defense - not only are you getting in great shape - but knowing what to do in a life threatening situation could save your life.

We live in a great community, but sometimes as women, we feel intimidated by our surroundings or certain situations. This workout gives you confidence, self esteem and is a great stress reliever.

Starting with the aerobics part, this greatly improves muscle tone and coordination. I have decreased my size in clothes from 10 to 8, and currently am losing inches in my hips. This is very exciting as I thought I would have these hips forever.

The Stretching activity of this workout greatly increases your flexibility. I now can do a full split both front and side. (see Brhonda's side split photo on her photo album's page)

The last and most important part of the workout are the Self Defense drills. These drills vary from class to class and you are always guaranteed to sweat a lot and learn as you go. You will gain concentration from the workout. Children also gain discipline from this structured activity.

It is an extraordinary workout with great benefits and I recommend it highly to anyone. I also encourage children and parents to workout together, and it can be a great family time together.

Each family class in the Koo Self Defense regular street self defense workout is one hour and I believe it is the best one hour you can put into your schedule to improve your health.
